This week we focus on a condition that is becoming more and more common. Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a condition characterized by the inability to see objects that are far clearer. Myopes often complain of not being able to see the board clearly in class or read subtitles on the TV. They often squint their eyes in order to see better.

Correction

Spectacles, contact lenses, and LASIK surgery can be used to provide clearer vision.

Causes

You can be born with myopia, or acquire it as you get older. Acquired myopia is prevalent as it is often caused by prolonged near work. Nowadays, learning, entertainment, and communication are done via screens, which increases our chances of developing myopia. Research has shown that just 2 hours of outdoor activities per day significantly reduces the chances of developing myopia.
