Here’s a simple guide on symptoms and possible causes:

Burning, red, teary, sandy eyes –  Most likely dry.  Artificial eye Drops may be bought over the counter at the pharmacy. Before buying the drops, consult your optometrist for a diagnosis confirmation.

Itching, red, teary – Allergy. Antihistamine drops are required, but you’ll need to consult so you can be properly diagnosed.

Itching, with a discharge – Infection likely. You need to consult for a diagnosis and get a prescription for the appropriate drops.

Always seek advice from your Optometrist before buying any eye drops. Condition such as astigmatism can result in red and sore eyes, and there’s no eye drop in the world that can get rid of astigmatism, so get your eyes examined, so the actual cause can be found and a proper solution prescribed.
