Myopia (Nearsightedness)

Myopia is a condition where the distance vision of an individual is blurry, while the near remains clear. Myopic people tend to squint to see things better. They struggle to read subtitles on the TV, they have difficulty reading billboards on the highway, seeing the board in class when sitting at the back, etc.

Some people are born myopic, while others develop it as they grow. Acquired myopia is very common nowadays due to the increased near work (computers, tablets, smart phones) that today’s lifestyle demands. Constantly staring at these devices may result in myopia.

Treatment includes spectacles, contact lenses and lasik. If you need to squint to see things clearly, or if you notice your child sitting closer to the tv to see it clearly, myopia might be the reason. Get your eyes examined in order to be diagnosed and treated.
